Kenya’s former Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission chairman Bethwel Kiplagat 81 has died.

He died early today [Friday], at Nairobi Hospital following a long illness.

Kiplagat becomes Kenya’s 4th senior citizen to die within a month following death of: Laikipia Senator GG Kariuki (June 30), Retired Major General Joseph Nkaissery (July 8) and Nicholas Biwott(July 11).

Kenya’s reconciliation Commission was formed as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Act 2008 to establish and resolve the extent of injustices following the 2007-2008 post election violence in which thousands died as others were internally displaced.

It was also mandated to look into injustices in Kenya since independence in 1963.

In its report, Kiplagat and team reported that Kenya is in hands of privileged people and also detailed how communities lost their lands.

Rest in peace
